According to chatter within the development community coming to light this morning, the PlayStation 3 may use a cluster of Sony’s new Cell processors, rather than one as a stand-alone CPU as was thought.
“From what we have been hearing, several Cells grouped together will comprise the PS3, somewhere between five and ten,” one development source said this morning. “From Sony’s initial specs, one would have been enough, so perhaps the machine will have other process-heavy applications, or maybe Sony is future-proofing itself.”
Very interesting. Might be development sewing circle nonsense, might be true. When we find out, we’ll let you know.
