The illusive PlayStation 3 took a step closer to tangibility this morning, with the announcement that Sony has penned a deal with semi-conductor firm Elpida to supply the next-gen console with memory.
The deal will see Elpida supply Sony Computer Entertainment with Yellowstone DRAM, to be manufactured externally and shipped to the PlayStation 3 production facility for assembly.
The 400 MHz set is capable of data transfer speeds of up to 3.2 GHz, it is expected that a CELL-specific DRAM set will be delivered to SCE, in order to fully maximise PS3’s power output and media-delivery capabilities.
As of this morning, no details as to when the manufacturing agreement will commence have been released.
More on everything PlayStation 3 as we get it.
