Pac-Man was once a truly legendary benchmark in the world of video games and now he's readying himself for a revival. Indeed, if anyone can resurrect such a classic, then Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo can. Originally planned as a straightforward remake for GBA owners, the game has evolved en route. Whilst Namco (who still hold the original Pac-Man license) were impressed by the initial adaptation, the subsequent design of a GameCube version has upped the stakes further.
Making full use of GBA connectivity, a multiplayer mode has been created that pitches one Pac-Man player against three other ghost players. While one controls Pac-Man on the GBA, playing in a style akin to the original, the other three players play as ghosts on the Cube, trying to track him down. None of the ghost players can get a view of the full pac arena, whilst Pac-Man fully benefits from an all-pervading bird's eye view.
It looks as though this new Pac-Man title will stick closely to its roots, preserving simplistic presentation so as to remain faithful to the original character. However, the offering of a multiplayer option is intriguing and the option to connect a GBA is enticing. It's a mysterious game with a lot to live up to, so we'll have to wait for more details to emerge in the wake of E3 before casting judgement.
