Kojima: ‘I want to develop MGS 3 for PlayStation 3’
Xen carries an enthralling interview translated from the new issue of Famitsu with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, talking about his development ambitions for the next game in the series.

When asked about Metal Gear Solid 3, he said, “Well, there will be another sequel. [smiles..] To be honest though, I didn't want to do a third instalment. I don't like how companies feed off the popularity of a series and continually release sequels. In this case however, the outcry from the fans has been overwhelming and I'm convinced there's enough new ideas for another Metal Gear.” This comment in itself in interesting. Saying that he feels companies, in this case Konami, feed off sequels, and his distaste for that, is unprecedented. You wouldn’t get Yuji Naka bemoaning future Sonic instalments…

He continues, “However, development isn't going to be easy and players shouldn't expect the game very soon. Trying to create the same type of visual and technical leap from Metal Gear Solid to Metal Gear Solid 2 will be extremely difficult. From MGS 1 to 2 we went from PlayStation to PlayStation 2. Developing another instalment on the PlayStation 2 will force us to maximise the capabilities of the hardware. That's one of the reasons why I originally wanted to develop Metal Gear Solid 3 on PlayStation3.”

So where will MGS3 end up? Expect something concrete at this year’s E3 in Los Angeles in May.
