Exclusive: Iwata dates GameCube 2!
Speaking at Nintendo's Kyoto headquarters overnight, company president Satoru Iwata made the most comprehensive reference to date regarding the firm's plans for a successor to its floundering GameCube console.

Briefing journalists about Nintendo's fall in GameCube predicted software sales, Iwata made it clear that a new system is currently being developed.

"We are developing the next videogame system for the home at the moment, in our research and development department. We are working closely with various technological partners. I can tell you that we expect to launch the system in either 2005 or 2006."

This amazing revelation has sent the industry sewing circle into a gossip frenzy, with speculation growing hourly as to whether or not Nintendo will announce something at this year's E3, due to take place in LA in May.

It's well established that Sony is aiming for a 2005 release for the PS3, as is Microsoft's intention to beat PS3 to retail with the launch of its next big box.
