British Telecom: The blight of gaming

Comms giant demands cut to Getaway

Posted by Staff
British Telecom has reportedly taken offence to some of the content in Team Soho's The Getaway, as it features BT branding throughout.

The Telecom outfit, widely held responsible for the UK's paralysed crawl into the broadband age, is not happy that several of its vans are used in the game for less than savoury purposes.

However, had BT thought about it, The Getaway could have proved hugely useful. When failing miserably to attend severe, business-disrupting breakdowns in their network, instead of making something up about carrying out diagnostics, the firm could simply insist that their vans had been stolen.

This would then cut down on complaints to OFTEL, less money is spent, everyone gets richer and the world is a better place.

"We don't care, we just want to make sure that a lot of people are unconvinced by us in every way possible," a senior BT official didn't say. "And anyway, The Getaway brings enjoyment to people. This is against everything we stand for," he didn't continue.

It's at this point that our thoughts turn to Chun Wah Kong and the rest of SCEE's Team Soho outfit. Having been famously the hardest working development outfit ever seen anywhere in the world, the poor blighters must now return to their posts to begin scrubbing BT insignias off various polygons in their newly released game.

Expect a revised, BT-free version of The Getaway in stores within weeks.

If you are planning to call SPOnG's offices to complain about this story… you can't, BT has "accidentally" disconnected our lines, and can't tell us when they can reconnect them. That'll teach us for running critical news stories about our wonderful and beloved telecoms provider. All hail BT, bringer of rings, and all things communicational.
