Ohura contradicts Allard on Xbox II release date

Development delay or miscommunication?

Posted by Staff
It would appear that the next instalment of Microsoft’s Xbox series of gaming consoles will not be released in 2004 as previously expected. Speaking to the assembled Tokyo press, Microsoft Japan MD Hirohisa Ohura said that he expected the machine to hit in 2005.

As you will be aware, previous indications from the company have hinted strongly at a 2005 release, a year before the expected release of Sony’s PlayStation 3. Indeed J Allard, US Xbox overlord and drinking champion of the world, said precisely this to us at this year’s X02 event in Seville.

As to whether there’s been a delay in research and development, a strategy rethink or simple lack of communication will be interesting to see.

We’ll keep you posted.
