Activision is setting a new course for the popular Starfleet Command franchise with the announcement of Star Trek Starfleet Command III for the PC. A tactical starship simulator, Star Trek Starfleet Command III will be the first title in the game series to take place in the Star Trek: The Next Generation timeline. For the benefit of those who do not 'Trek', The Next Generation is the one with hairless Huddersfield Town fan Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard - you may have strayed across the odd episode of The Next Generation while waiting for The Simpsons to come on.
For those who do ‘Trek’, you have a friend in Larry Goldberg, executive vice president, Activision Worldwide Studios. He commented: "The Starfleet Command series captures the spirit and style of Star Trek by offering large-scale, ship-to-ship tactical combat. Star Trek Starfleet Command III reinvents the legendary series by bringing it into the Star Trek: The Next Generation universe and introducing powerful new ship customisation, more in-depth story missions, and a streamlined interface."
The game features three single-player missions where gamers take control of a selection of craft, playing as Klingons, Romulans or the Federation. There is also a multiplayer ‘skirmish’ mode available.
Star Trek Starfleet Command III is due for release on November 22.
