SquareSoft of Japan has announced the production of an all-new game in the Final Fantasy series. This unexpected news marks the emergence of a Game Boy Advance title called Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles.
Crystal Chronicles is the finalised name for the Game Boy Advance aspect of Final Fantasy N, the GameCube/Game Boy link-up RPG, currently in the works at Square.
The format of the game, as we revealed exclusively some months ago, will be unlike anything else seen in the role-playing genre. This multi-faceted title will enable a single player to play through the game in the classic solo style. However, you will be able to link multiple GBA units together to further the possibilities of any quest undertaken.
Not that groundbreaking so far, but wait, there’s more.
The GameCube version, will contain the same data as the GBA version, thus enabling the player or players to link their GBA consoles into the GameCube for fully-fledged cooperative home console play.
It is known that as well as transferring data between the two Nintendo machines, when playing in ‘GameCube mode’ players will be able to see essential game data on the GBA screen. This will include health points, magic quotas, battle formations and more.
Expect to see Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles hit the UK for the GBA (expected to be the first release) late next year. And one more thing: remember where you read about it first.
In other news, Square released some details on several other games, some we already knew about and some that are brand new. A sequel to Seiken Densetsu for GBA was announced, as well as a Chocobo sequel.
