Price-cut sees Xbox resurgent in Japan

Microsoft outstrips GameCube as yen bites

Microsoft Japan has seen sales of its Xbox jump over 600% in the week ending May 26 following a price-cut that saw the machine priced at around £160.

Now cheaper that the PlayStation 2, Xbox sales have leapt from under 1,000 units to 6447, hammering the GameCube, which only managed 3502 hardware sales.

It was widely expected that a sales surge would follow the price-snip, as Japanese gamers gear up to play the Sega Xbox exclusive titles Crazy Taxi 3 and the awesome Panzer Dragoon Orta.

PlayStation 2 sales also fell away. Having stabilised at around 65,000 hardware units per week, sales of Sony’s market leader fell to 55,764
