Despite what you may have heard to the contrary, Super Smash Bros. is not confirmed for a spring release.“There seems to be some buzz online today about the launch date of Super Smash Bros,” a Nintendo rep said in a statement published by VG247. “We would like to clarify that the speculation about a Spring 2014 launch date for
Super Smash Bros. on Wii U was the result of a misquotation in an interview.
“The original article has since been rectified and we have no further announcements to make at this time.”
The 'buzz' started thanks to Nintendo Germany general manager Bernd Fakesch being quoted as saying
Mario Kart 8 and
Super Smash Bros. were due in Spring, though the Smash Bros. date was reported as only pertaining to the Wii U version, not the 3DS release. The
Mario Kart 8 date was already known, but an indication of
Smash Bros.' date would have been big news. Still, it appears that the date was the result of either misreporting or mistranslation.
