Nintendo says that Pokemon X and Y have, between them, sold more than 4,000,000 copies worldwide over the weekend. This is the first time Nintendo has done a simultaneous global launch for the
Pokemon series. While that makes it impossible to do an exact comparison, Nintendo reckons that the sales have topped those of
Pokémon Black 2 and
Pokémon White 2 to make it the fastest-selling 3DS release of all time. X and Y topped the previous games by more than 70%.
The data is for Japan, Europe and the Americas. It's worth noting that, in the UK at least, a lot of retailers broke the Saturday street date to sell the game on Friday.
If the sales data for Pokemon X and Y had been taken together they
would have topped the UK games chart this week, but Chart-Track opted to list them separately.
Nintendo also served up some sales figures on previous Pokemon titles. It looks like this:
Pokémon Diamond and
Pokémon Pearl - Nintendo DS - 17.63 Million
Pokémon Ruby and
Pokémon Sapphire - Game Boy Advance - 16.22 Million
Pokémon Black and
Pokémon White - Nintendo DS - 15.42 Million
Pokémon HeartGold and
Pokémon SoulSilver - Nintendo DS - 12.67 Million
Pokémon FireRed and
Pokémon LeafGreen - Game Boy Advance - 12 Million
