It looks like the PlayStation Network's expansion to mobile devices is going ahead as planned. Sony has announced that PSN customers can now top up their virtual wallets using their mobile phone. Thanks to a partnership with mobile payments company Boku, users now have the option of adding their mobile details into their PlayStation Network account to help pay for PS3 or Sony Entertainment Network content. Funds can be topped up via SMS, with money either coming out of their monthly bill or debited from a top-up account.
"We are always looking at new ways to give our customers more choice in terms of content, accessibility and payment methods, and are pleased to be able to offer the option of mobile operator billing, which are becoming more and more popular," Sony Network Entertainment Europe VP Gordon Thornton said. Obviously, he's happy about it.
It's the first step towards a Sony's vision for its PlayStation 4 - with mobile phones and tablets being used as companion devices for PSN content.
