Nintendo has announced plans to introduce the Wii U's built-in karaoke app, previously only available to Japanese users, to Western systems.Wii Karaoke U by Joysound will be offered to European consoles as a free download, according to
MCV. Players will then be able to enjoy the entire catalogue of songs on a subscription basis, with pay options for an hour, a day or 30 days' worth of play.
Mirroring the experience found in Japanese karaoke bars, the Wii U GamePad will act as an interactive catalogue for users to browse. Songs can be queued up in the middle of play, and the tablet controller will also double as a microphone if you're feeling cheap. Nintendo confirmed that Wii U and compatible USB microphones will also work.
More details - including release date - are sure to come, but the fact that Nintendo is talking about it now suggests that we could see the app launch before the Christmas holiday kicks in.
