Report: Sony 'Opened the Floodgates' on PS4 Pre-Orders This Weekend

If Sony seems confident in sales of its upcoming PlayStation 4, then this is probably why. According to reports over the weekend, the company has lifted pre-order restrictions on a number of GameStop stores.
Likely in an attempt to capitalise on the recent E3 success and goodwill it generated two weeks ago, an internal memo on Friday from the US retailer stated that "starting now, through this weekend and until further notice, Sony has allowed us to take unlimited pre-orders beyond your current allotments. In other-words, the flood gates are open for PS4 system reserves, we will let you know when to stop pre-ordering based on limited quantities."
The notice has been verified by multiple reports and sources. It's unknown when Sony may close up this unlimited pre-order spree, but it would probably be a good idea for the company to somewhat limit it down to what it can reasonably manufacture. Perhaps Sony's manufacturing schedule is well ahead of itself, who knows?
Sony executives have previously indicated that demand for PlayStation 4 may outstrip supply of the console itself.
