Ubisoft has been a solid supporter of Nintendo's Wii U ever since launch, but comments from CEO Yves Guillemot suggest that the publisher's patience with the platform is starting to wear a little thin."We need more sold," the executive bluntly said when asked about Ubisoft's continuing support, indicating that if Nintendo doesn't turn its console's fortunes around soon, it could lose the good will of the French publisher.
Guillemot hopes that Nintendo has a solid plan in place to recover from its initial launch woes, adding "They are coming with five of their biggest brands ever. The Yen went down. So maybe they will take steps that will increase the number of consoles sold."
But, if it all goes tits up, supporting the Wii U would not have been a waste of time. The CEO added that experience working on the GamePad has allowed the company to understand second-screen gameplay a lot better, which will be useful in exploring PS Vita and PS4 connectivity, or Xbox One's SmartGlass tech.
"We knew we could learn second-screen with Nintendo, so we went full-speed to use this capacity the console was bringing. And we were able to develop
Rayman, which will come at the end of this year and which is fantastic, using this second screen.
"What we saw is that, in learning that, we can also use it with the other consoles with [Xbox] Smart Glass, for example, and it's a good option that is coming to us. If you look at us this year on Wii U we will have a lot of products."
