GameStop has apparently had enough of the Wii U's two-SKU shenanigans. The retailer will be putting an end to the sale of the white, cheaper Basic hardware model later this month, according to a notice to store staff.Either that, or Nintendo has realised that nobody is really buying the 8GB $299.99 model, with gamers largely opting for the $349.99 32GB black Deluxe model (which also includes a copy of Nintendo Land and more accessories).
The note to retailers says that any existing Wii U Basic units will be "recalled" on Tuesday, June 18 - a week after the Nintendo Direct E3 broadcast. Another clue towards an official move away from the Wii U Basic model is the recent announcement by Nintendo Japan that a white Wii U Deluxe model will be on sale soon.
Nintendo said in a statement that "we do not comment on our business practices with retailers."
