Look out, world. Nintendo is waking up. The Japanese company has revealed that it plans to air two Wii U-focused Nintendo Directs in a bid to turn the console's fortunes around. And the first of these is set to air tomorrow! The May 17 Nintendo Direct will air at 3pm UK Time, and focus on "the line-up of games coming for Wii U this spring and summer." As a result, you probably shouldn't hold your breath for any megatons - it's likely going to be full of release dates for already-confirmed titles. But, Nintendo have used the Direct platform to surprise fans in the past, so there might be the odd shock announcement.
In addition to tomorrow's broadcast, Nintendo adds that "details of Wii U releases scheduled for autumn and beyond are to be announced in a separate Nintendo Direct broadcast around the time of the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June."
Nintendo has recently focused a lot of its marketing muscle on promoting the 3DS handheld in the US and Europe, with a smattering of high-profile titles over the last few months translating to positive sales.
Luigi's Mansion 2 and
LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins have sat in the UK Top 10 for weeks now.
But the company has also assured fans and investors that it will ramp up its support for the Wii U home console in the second half of 2013. We know that there will be showcases of a new 3D
Mario and
Mario Kart titles at E3, as well as new details on the upcoming
Smash Bros. game. The second Nintendo Direct will hopefully be a conduit through which even more titles are announced.
