Microsoft has already announced plans to phase out Microsoft Points for Windows 8 - which heavily hinted at a similar phase-out for its Xbox platform, which uses the currency the most. Today, sources within the corporation have confirmed that the Xbox will indeed follow suit.Instead of the Points system, Microsoft is opting for universal gift cards that can be translated into real-world money across all Windows and Xbox devices. Normal credit card and debit card transactions will continue to be accepted, but will instead be dealing in true currency.
According to
The Verge, a formal unveiling of these cards will be made at E3 next month.
