Hooray for fresh new game ideas! Team Meat, the creative geniuses behind Super Meat Boy, has spilled the beans on its latest project, Mew-Genics.Co-creator
Edmund McMillen described the title as a "cat-lady" sim - "a cross between
The Sims and
Pokemon with a sprinkling of
Animal Crossing and a dash of
Tamagotchi."
McMillen explains that the game is the most complex that he has ever worked on, with a phenomenally large number of different cat designs included. Cats can be thawed from cryo-cubes, entered into pageants, bred to create stronger genes, and can even emulate mental trauma.
Using a story of a previous gameplay experience to illustrate the game's features, McMillen told how one of his cats had kicked another in the face whilst eating, causing the victim to be scared of all food and dying of starvation. Characteristics and neurological disorders like narcolepsy can be carried through different generations of cats, and some felines can even contract sexual diseases.
According to the Team Meat blog, some "25418658283290000000000000" cats feature in
Mew-Genics - and that only accounts for the "foundation of their visual aspects... this doesn't count their kitten states, sizes, animation sets, stats, personality, etc."
McMillen wrote, "We want to create a living world where cats act like cats and the player as well as the cat's actions actually matter. We are both very happy with the direction the game is moving in and will do random development updates as we progress, but we are done teasing and at this point just want to put our heads down and get this thing done!"
The game has no release date as of yet, but target platforms for the time being include Steam, iOS and Android.
