Xbox 360 Poised to Overtake Wii Sales in UK
All eyes might be on Sony and its February 20 press event right now, but Microsoft still wants your attention. And it has good reason to command it - according to the company, the Xbox 360 is on track to outsell the Wii in the UK to become the Number 1 games console in the country.

The Xbox 360 has reportedly passed the eight million units mark in sales, and according to MCV, could pass the Wii's UK lifetime sales in a "matter of weeks". This in the face of a renewed push from Sony which has seen its PS3 put up a bigger fight over the last couple of months.

Microsoft regional boss Jon Grimes was pretty chuffed, naturally. "Ten years ago, to think we would be the leader in our second generation is an achievement," he said. "We have great people that have been with us a long time, and now it’s about strengthening that team.

Grimes also pooh-poohed Sony's upcoming February 20 event, in which Microsoft's competitor is expected to unveil the next PlayStation console. "Whatever gets announced on February 20th, the majority of UK consumers won’t know," he said.

"They’ll still want to buy the devices out there. Our job is not to get lost in the industry chatter, but to ensure that the consumers going into stores, going online, still experience Xbox. The announcement is important for the industry, but it is also important to remember who is buying right now."
