Nintendo has unveiled a brand new Yoshi platformer for the Wii U, called Yarn Yoshi. Look how cute it is! If it looks familiar, there's a reason for that - the game is being developed by the team behind Kirby's Epic Yarn for the Wii.
The game was announced during the latest Nintendo Direct broadcast. Satoru Iwata revealed that the director of Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story, Takashi Tezuka, is supervising the development of this new title.
Looking at the screens, it appears that a lot of the aesthetics and even some gameplay mechanics may have crossed over from Kirby's Epic Yarn, including the ability for Yoshi to transform into a string-outline version of himself on a 2D plane. The game is said to be set in "a fanciful world of yarn and textiles."
The last console game to feature Yoshi in the starring role was 1998's Yoshi's Story for the Nintendo 64. And now we feel old.
