Nintendo's Wii U will most likely be a smash hit, if reports from the official launch party in London and pre-order stories are anything to go by. And the company is optimistic in the new platform's performance, with UK marketing head James Honeywell hoping it can replicate the success of the original Wii in 2006.He told
CVG that he "absolutely" believes that the Wii U will sell just as well in the UK as it has in the US, where some 400,000 units were reported to have been sold in its first week.
"The US has been a fantastic launch. Obviously that's a much bigger market, and so they've got more stock, but we're hoping for the same standard of success here in the UK," Honeywell said at the official midnight launch in HMV's Oxford Street store.
"We hope to live up to the same kind of success with the Wii. As you can see, people are really excited about it. Time will tell."
Honeywell also spoke of the console's "fantastic" launch line-up, and that he believes it will "be sold out in the first few days, if not the first few hours." Don't worry though - there are more deliveries coming. Let's hope there's enough to satisfy demand, then.
