Nintendo President Apologises for Wii U Network Update
Nintendo's Wii U launch in the US wasn't exactly smooth sailing. Chief of the issues and complaints that hit the internet involved the console's Day 1 system update, which contains all of the platform's network functionality. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has gone on the record to apologise for the inconvenience.

Technically, it's not altogether necessary. In a world where Day 1 patches are an everyday occurrence, you can hardly blame a company like Nintendo - a company famed for flagrantly avoiding such things - for pushing one out now. If it was going to release just one patch, it might as well be this one. Complaints about patch sizes were largely unfounded, but download times were a legitimate concern.

Iwata addresses this in an interview with IGN, where he accepts some blame for the mishap. "Personally I think that users should be able to use all the functions of a console video game machine as soon as they open the box," he said.

"So I feel very sorry for the fact that purchasers of Wii U have to experience a network update which takes such a long time, and that there are the services which were not available at the hardware’s launch."

Do we forgive him? Or do we drag him over the metaphorical coals? You decide. We guess. Let us know in the comments below.
