Gearbox Explains Why Borderlands is Not on Wii U

No "natural, obvious" way to take advantage of the hardware.

Gearbox seems to love Nintendo's Wii U. After all, it's making a version of Aliens: Colonial Marines for the system. But, what about Gearbox's smash hit, Borderlands? Nope, that's not seeing a Wii U release. Sorry.

CEO Randy Pitchford explains that the reason for this is due to the lack of obvious ways to utilise the GamePad in a manner that would enhance the Borderlands experience.

To GamesMaster magazine, he said, "We get asked if there is going to be a Wii U version of Borderlands... The reason why there's not is because we couldn't think of a natural, obvious, 'OMG, I want that for what the Wii U brings to the table' feature.

"But with Aliens, the first thing we thought was 'Holy shit, I can have a motion controller in my hands!' When it's there in my lap it feels like I'm part of the movie."

Perhaps if the Wii U was around when Borderlands 2 development started, things would have worked out differently. But hey, at least developers are actively thinking of positive uses for the GamePad and aren't so willing to work on simple ports for the system. That's got to count for something, right?

Translated to English: Take 2 doesn't want to do one so there isn't going to be one. Full stop.

(Seriously, Pitchford, if this is the best excuse you can muster, you should leave this sort of thing to the PR people who already have no credibility rather than damaging your own.)
