Times are tough all round. But for 30 people in Minneapolis who worked for Activision they just got a bit harder. Local news reports that the company is to cut the staff due to a "strategy shift".According to the reporter, the "local offices handled marketing and publishing of licensed titles like its Cabela's hunting games." Apparently another local report from KSTP-TV notes "that the workers will be laid off Dec. 28; it'll employ 118 people after the cuts."
Says
Bizjournals, "Activision first disclosed the news in "to the state in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act (WARN) notification, even though it legally didn't have to because the number of layoffs is less than 50."
Activision told Joystiq, "Like any successful business, Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues – this is an ongoing process. In 2013, we expect that our Minneapolis division will release fewer games based on third-party licenses than we released during 2012.
"As a result, we are realigning the structure of our Activision Minneapolis division to better reflect our slate and the market opportunities. We are working to redirect those employees that are impacted to other parts of the company where possible, as well as offering them outplacement counseling services."
We wish the laid off staff the very best.
