Sony is taking steps to make its digital AAA offering on PS3 that little bit sweeter for gamers. The company is launching a 'PSN Day 1 Digital' initiative in the US, which will see full-disc titles such as Dishonored and Resident Evil 6 made available at a release-day discount for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
Of course, Sony has been known to be courting publishers to release their games on PSN day-and-date with their Blu-ray counterparts for a long time. It's the discount that's raising eyebrows - many AAA titles on the digital platform are currently selling for ridiculous amounts of money. Sixty quid for SSX!
The discount is for a selection of new releases, and will be a ten per cent markdown for those who invested in PlayStation Plus. The titles include Dishonored, Resident Evil 6, Medal of Honor: Warfigher, Assassin's Creed III, 007: Legends and Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
It's likely that the discounts won't be enough to match retail - but then, that's probably not the point at this stage. Sony still needs retail stores, and aggravating them by undercutting their prices would no doubt be bad news. But still, it's nice that Sony's giving the old digital distribution thing a fair old crack, either way.
