A mid-core gamer today.
Zynga has taken some brief respite from counter-suing Electronic Arts and has bought "mid-core, multiplatform games developer A Bit Lucky, an incredibly talented studio based out of San Mateo, Calif."

We had literally no idea what "mid-core developer" is. So, we went to find out. According to this, "Combining an immersive experience and casual gameplay is what mid-core gaming is about," which leads us to believe that it's not a term made up entirely for marketing people to say to each other even though it just means, "Casual Game".

Anyway, marketing bullshit to one side, "The team is made up of game veterans from companies like Trion Worlds and Xfire and brings with it two extremely talented founders –Frederic Descamps and Jordan Maynard. All 20+ of A Bit Lucky’s employees will become part of Zynga San Francisco." That sounds like good news for all those chaps and lasses.

The A Bit Lucky people are currently working on a multi-player (and multi-platform) game called Solstice Arena which, despite its meaningless name, will get finished.

Zynga has also hired John Tobias, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series, "who joins Mark Turmell in our Zynga San Diego studio as Creative Director and is already working on a cool new mid-core game. Soren Johnson, another respected industry leader, recently joined Zynga East in Baltimore and is working on a stealth project as well."
