Sony has announced that the PlayStation Vita will not be recalled, as a Japanese government agency investigates more than 30 cases of overheating systems since the platform's launch.Yomiuri reports that a detailed listing of 31 incidents have been submitted to the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation on July 12. Of these global figures, 23 cases of overheating Vitas originated from Japan, with eight from North America, United Kingdom and Australia.
The problem seems to occur during charging, with all 31 cases involving the connection port where the charging unti plugs into the Vita unit. No injuries have occurred as a result of the overheating issue, but Sony said that the product is not malfunctioning.
Sony PR has told Yumiuri that "the problem is with people having liquids or other objects inserted in the connection." The Vita won't be recalled, and burnt out connector ports will need to pay the company to get it fixed.
