A single source has explained that Sony will not be debuting the new CECH-4011B "SuperSlim" PS3 at gamescom next month. The source dropped this news on
VG247. We've also been on the blower to a source who won't go either way on the subject but did explain that he or she "wouldn't be surprised one way of the other if you know what I mean". We don't, but you can't knock a source.
Apparently, although the
the new CECH-4011B that was first outed in Brazil won't be showing up in Germany for gamescom, there is a 16Gb, apparently flash-memory based unit and it will be appearing... some time... sooner or later. The reason it's not going to be at gamescom is, according the the VG247 source, "stock levels of the current build are said to be too high for Sony to move onto what is probably the last take on PS3 before PlayStation 4 is announced next year."
According to the source, the 16Gb unit, "will have a flip-lid disc input and low-capacity storage, we’ve been told today that the announcement “may” be accompanied by a huge price cut, with the entry version potentially dropping as low as £99. Specifics are yet to be ironed out, though."
Given that pricing will have to be rolled out globally (unless the 16Gb or 'PS Runty' as we're calling it) and this process usually takes a while, we reckon PS Runty won't see the light of day much before November, and nor does our source.
