Tuesday is a good day to turn on your Xbox 360, it seems, with two of the biggest games from the last year - Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim - seeing substantial downloadable content launch today on Xbox Live Marketplace.
Skyrim's add-on pack is perhaps the most exciting. Called Dawnguard, it adds an extra quest that centres on the return of a vampire lord called Harkon. Obviously, he's going to cause a lot of problems in Skyrim, so a vampire-hunting team has been established to drag his sorry ass back to whence he came. So things kick off, naturally. Dawnguard also contains new skills and abilities for your character to learn.
Mass Effect 3 will finally be getting its Extended Ending add-on as well. This was announced by Bioware some time ago, after it was made clear that players felt a little bit cheated out of the conclusion of Shepard's adventure. Rather than completely change the ending though, what this does is offer an expanded explanation detailing the consequences of your decisions following the finale.
Skyrim: Dawnguard will cost 1600 Microsoft Points. Mass Effect 3: Extended Ending will be absolutely free. How nice. PlayStation 3 and PC gamers will have to wait a little bit longer for the both of these - Dawnguard will hit in a month's time and Mass Effect 3's Extended Ending has been delayed by a week, arriving on July 4th.
