Sony is hoping to give its PlayStation Move peripheral a massive shot in the arm with the introduction of an interactive reading platform called Wonderbook. Using augmented reality, books are scanned in with the PlayStation Eye and images are then displayed on screen. Yawn, right? Wrong. JK Rowling is bringing Harry Potter's Book of Spells to it.
As part of a partnership with Rowling's Harry Potter online experience, Pottermore, Book of Spells allows players with a Move controller to cast magic and other effects on their TV screen. Characters appear from the book and interact with your experience.
The Wonderbook platform was developed by SCEE's London Studio, and works in a similar fashion to its previous work in EyePet. Sony's Andrew House announced that Wonderbook won't just be limited to stories - atlases can be explored on your PS3 to improve your geographical knowledge, for example. Moonbot Studios, an interactive book studio, is working on a project called Diggs Nightcrawler, a cartoon story based on film noire.
