E3 2012: Microsoft Brings Internet Explorer to Xbox
It looks like a kiosk version to us... but Xbox 360 finally gets a browser
Well, at last! A form of Internet browser is coming to Xbox 360. It makes use of the SmartGlass system we talked about earlier.
Unlike both Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PS3 both of which enable browsing, Microsoft's console has long been seen as a closed one due to its lack of internet browser. This has lead to accusations that the company wanted to milk more cash form Xbox Live Gold members.
Well, the company revealed today that IE will be coming to the Xbox 360 in the autumn. Now, it's not stated if you need Xbox Live Gold to use it. It's also unclear if this is going to be a kiosked browser where only partner content allowed. But it is certainly an advance.
