If trying to get your consumers excited about a press conference in Los Angeles was a contest, Sony would probably beat Nintendo hands down. While the Wii maker has offered a YouTube video, the House of PlayStation is going one better - offering 200 seats of conference venue, the LA Sports Arena, to the general public.PlayStation fans who are not members of the games industry will be allowed entry to watch Sony's E3 presser happen right in front of their faces - provided they are one of the first 200 in line. According to the PlayStation.Blog, wannabe cheerleaders will need to be at the LA Sports Arena no later than 3:30pm, with entrants "helping us out with our pre-show festivities."
Quite what that means, we don't know - but no doubt Sony wants a dedicated section to provide the same kinds of whoops and cheers normally reserved for Nintendo press conferences.
Is this a case of Sony finally getting the whole community management deal, interacting directly with fans? Or is it a cynical way of controlling the message and generating some artificial cheer during what will be an otherwise underwhelming conference?
