Someone alert the internet fashion police! Microsoft is finally relenting in including a web browser in the Xbox 360, according to a report. The bad news is, it's Internet Explorer 9. The worse news is, it'll have integrated Kinect gestures and voice control, too.The Verge cites 'sources' that claim that the company is testing a modified version of its proprietary browser on the console. Currently the Xbox 360 can search for content within Xbox Marketplace and Zune Store using a stripped-down Bing search mechanic, but the inclusion of IE would allow users to access the full web.
Kinect compatibility would mean that hand movements and voice commands can be used to surf through websites. Apparently, Kinect control is only optional at this stage.
Microsoft has resisted calls to include a version of Internet Explorer - or in fact, any browser - in the Xbox 360 for many years. And again, it has still made no official announcement about this new application. If it turns out to be true, we'll hear more about it at E3, no doubt.
