Microsoft has announced that it is to cease all production of its Inside Xbox video content for North American Xbox 360 users. That means US-based shows like Major's Minute, Featured Videos and Insider Moves will be cancelled, and no longer shown in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.Company spokesperson Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb - who has starred in a number of Inside Xbox videos - revealed the change on his official blog. "We want to express our sincere appreciation to all of our viewers and fans of Inside Xbox, and remain committed to providing our members with access to high-quality news and information via the console, social media channels and Xbox.com," he wrote.
But there's a big part of the equation that has still yet to be solved. The European side of Inside Xbox video production, which includes shows like Sent U A Message and The Nexus, has proven to be very popular with Xbox users, and Hryb stated that at this time, a decision on whether these shows in particular will be kept or if they will face cancellation as well.
"Xbox LIVE in EMEA is currently looking at its operating model for Inside Xbox. This could potentially result in some changes, but we have no news here to share yet," Hryb revealed, while in other international countries... "Xbox LIVE in Mexico and Japan will continue to produce first-party content for its members via other media outside of the Inside Xbox brand."
Microsoft will instead focus on "third-party news and video content available through a variety of existing and future partners, and supplementing this content with select first-party offerings."
