George Hotz Met With Sony Engineers on PS3 Security
It's been a while since we heard about the adventures of adolescent iPhone hacker George Hotz, who spent several months exploiting the security of Sony's PlayStation 3. It turns out that he's been meeting with Sony engineers to discuss ways of improving the console's defences.

In a recent New Yorker article, Hotz - known online by his handle "Geohot" - said that he was invited to Sony's American HQ in Foster City, California back in May 2011. Why? Because, according to SVP of Sony America's strategic communications Jim Kennedy, "we are always interested in exploring all avenues to better safeguard our systems and protect consumers."

Hotz was reportedly more than happy to visit Sony and provide assistance to better the security on the PS3. But he intended to make life difficult for them at first. "If there were going to be lawyers there, I was going to be the biggest asshole ever," Hotz recalled. The New Yorker tells of a meeting where the young hacker had "walked into the building eating from a box of Lucky Charms, dropping marshmallows across the lobby."

The report continues, "Instead, [Hotz] found a roomful of PS3 engineers who were “respectful,” he said, and wanted to learn more about how he had beaten their system. During the next hour or so, the man who had started the hacker wars described his methodology."

According to an unnamed srouce from the Japanese game industry:Major Japanese companies are canceling all projects intended for the Vita and are changing development to the 3DS.Scott Rohde of Sony has denied this is the case, sharing that:I know many, many, many third party developers and publishers are feverishly working on Vita titles, not just for now, but for the foreseeable future. But even so, it’s interesting we’re hearing these sort of things already. I think it’ll take until Christmas before we can be sure which side the truth lands upon. The original quote from the unnamed srouce, however, does come from Nikkei, a major publication in Japan that has been very accurate with their exclusive reports. 0
