Japanese PlayStation Vita users will have a few more ways to play with their shiny new handheld when a major firmware update arrives on Wednesday. System software version 1.60 seems to carry with it a lot more than just a service rebranding to Sony Entertainment Network.First of all, a new application will be installed called Maps. Three guesses for what this is used for. Using an internet connection, you can pinpoint exactly where you are in the world and get walking and driving directions to any destination you like. Looks a lot like Google Maps on iPhone, but we won't hold it against 'em.
After much whinging and whining, the Photos application can now capture video. At the moment, you can only take static photos - and they're not of stunning quality either - so we wonder exactly how well this video malarkey is going to work out.
Finally, Mac OS X users will be able to use the Content Management Assistant software to transfer media and data across from computer to Vita. Since the console's Japanese launch, this has only been available on Windows. Roll on Wednesday!
