Sony has launched the next System Software Update for PlayStation 3. Version 4.00 allows the console to be used as a content management device when connected with a PlayStation Vita.
Japanese Vita users can back up their game save data to the PlayStation 3's hard drive and update system software if necessary, while the PS3 can serve digital content such as games, music, photos and videos straight back onto the handheld.
Additional features in v4.00 includes the ability for PlayStation Plus members to pick and choose what kind of content should be subject to the automatic update service, and PSN settings for filtering friend requests and messages.
So not quite the megaton that one would expect from a software update with a round number, but it's nice to know that when Vita finally arrives in the UK you'll be able to use your PS3 to sync it up without waiting for new console firmware.
