Activision has been forced into an embarassing climb-down on figures it published - but attributed to Microsoft regarding the number of concurrent users playing Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Live. The figure is down 1.9million.Originally Activision issued
a press release stating:"According to Microsoft:
More than 3.3 million unique gamers played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in one day on November 8 up from 2.6 million unique gamers for Call of Duty: Black Ops.
"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 set a new record for concurrent players on Xbox LIVE with 3.3 million simultaneous users on November 8."
It has now issued a release that states:
"Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), announced today that the previously released tally of 3.3 million simultaneous users of
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox® LIVE™ on November 8 was reported in error.
"The correct figure is 1.4 million simultaneous users. As previously stated, more than 3.3 million unique gamers played
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in one day on November 8."
Whoops.
