Modern Warfare 3 is #1 in the UK Video Game All Format's Charts (compiled by Gfk Charttrack). Really. Xbox 360 players will be particularly pleased as they made up 59% of sales (that's up from 55% from Black Ops.Basically,
MW3 set all sorts of records for Day 1. So, the Week 1 sales are of little surprise but of major uplift the retail and games industry.
According to
MCV for example,
MW3's Week 1 sales "helped the UK games sector to its biggest weekly return ever, making £120.8m, beating previous record holder Week 45 in 2010.
In its first five days in the UK the shooter has sold 2m units and grossed £83.1m. While the revenue figure is up 1.5 per cent on
Call of Duty: Black Ops, the unit sales are actually 1.6 per cent lower than its predecessor."
But what of Bethesda’s
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which released on 11th November compared to MW3's release date of November 8th? It hit the chart at #2 and making it the fifth biggest launch of the year.
