Sony Computer Entertainment America boss Jack Tretton is unsure how the Vita data cap will work - he is, however, sure that the Great PSN Hack wasn't Sony's responsibility.

Vita is apparently coming out "in the first quarter [of 2012] in the States". That we knew, but when pressed on the much maligned 3G data-cap of 20MB that was recently announced in Japan he was unsure. While he said "That's probably based on the partner and the amount of data that they're going to allow to be fed based on the plan," a Sony rep then followed up that there's been no announcement regarding that in the US. Interesting...

Tretton also insisted that Sony is really going to push the connectivity between Vita and PS3 much like Nintendo plans to with the Wii-U: "With Vita, it's an absolutely symbiotic and natural relationship where conceivably you'll be able to build up your characters, play the game on Vita and then carry the process over to the PS3." Tretton also acknowledged that the original PSP was supposed to do that but "the power... and the accessibility was limiting".

There's also a quick mention about the PSN Pass that all first-party Sony games will ship with from the release of Uncharted 3 onwards. Taking a lead from EA's Online Pass, gamers who pick up used copies will now have to fork out to get access to online services. "There will be a minimal cost associated with it," says Tretton, "and that will vary by market."

On the PSN Hack, Tretton states, "The consumers are the core of our business, and without the consumers we don't have a business. I just wanted them to know how sorry we were for what they went through. And while we certainly don't feel we were responsible for it, we felt their pain, and I just wanted to send my heartfelt apologies for what they had to go through."
