Hands-up on our part, we thought the PlayStation 'teaser' from September was going to herald something, well, new and fun. It actually heralds another trailer thanking you for playing its games.
Basically, it's a "spot the game character" video that's aimed as a sop to the hardcore gamers who might feel a bit left out by all the other PS3 advertising that sells the console as a Teasmaid.
Along with Kratos, Cole and Nathan Drake it also manages to co-opt a US infantryman in a tearful mention of the thousands of troops who died on the beaches during the D-Day Landings. Very tasteful... but hell, all is apparently fair in adverts and pretend war.
It all culminates in a big thank you to... oh, watch it yourself, no spoilers here.
So, am I over-reacting, should I get a sense of humour? Or does that soldier's speech not really fit in a high production value advert attempting to retain a user-base? Comments please.
Yeah, cheer up. It's just a cool ad for some cool games...

Looking at the Twittersphere in which all games journoes are saying things like "The new US PlayStation 3 ad is brilliantly done", it would appear that this enormous stick up my behind is interfering with my ability to see high-production value work.
I'm off to get a large beer
Cheers

I've watched it without sound, seems pretty cool to me.
Just this morning I was looking up the old 1999 Double Life PlayStation advert, and this kinda reminds me of it.

Brilliant. Loved it. Like Tru Smiles says, takes me right back to the PS1's "conquered worlds" Double Life ads
