Just like your iPhone, the hotly-anticipated PlayStation Vita looks like it'll be limiting your downloads should you try and grab anything via 3G. According to a report over at Andriasang, Sony is initially barring anything over 20MB – for bigger files, you'll have to find yourself some wifi access. This seems like a pretty odd move. After all, considering that Vita is a portable device and Sony is pushing the whole gaming outside thing, what happens if you want to download
Modern Warfare: Portable Ops* if you're in the middle of a field? Not many barns have internet connections. According to the Sony spokesperson you'll be able to use the PSN Store but will you have to wait until you get a wifi connection before downloading?
There's also questions over the device's speeds over 3G with worries that games requiring quick updates will crash and burn. Online fighters and racers require some sturdy upload and download speeds, for example, and gamers will not be happy if lag causes issues. With something like
WipeOut 2048 coming as an early release title, it'll need to be nigh-on perfect online racing.
Again, the Sony representative insists that there's no problem, but we won't truly see until the system is in gamers' hands getting pushed to the limits. We'll be keeping an eye out on any reports of problems.
*This is NOT an announcement. It'd be very cool, mind. Get on with it, Infinity Ward.
