Sony and LG have finally buried the hatchet and signed a cross-licensing deal which will end a string of bitter patent disputes relating to smartphones, TVs and Blu-ray technology. The two companies failed to sign a renewed technology sharing agreement some three years ago, and have been embroiled in legal tussles ever since.
Blu-ray technology was the biggest issue, leading to the blocking of PlayStation 3 shipments to Europe and a holding of units at customs in the Netherlands earlier this year.
"LG and Sony recently agreed to drop patent infringement lawsuits against each other," a spokesperson for LG commented. Sony said basically the same thing, but declined to speak further on the matter.
