Weak software has harmed the 3DS

Nintendo 3DS Misfire Forces Wii U Rethink
The launch of Nintendo's 3DS has not been the game-changing and disruptive success that the company hoped for. Some say it's down to bad press about 'nausea'. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata says it's down to a weak game library.

He told investors, "We also must reflect on the fact that we were not able to launch Nintendo 3DS at a time when a sufficient number of strong software titles were ready."

This also means that the company must learn some lessons. According to Mr Iwata, the company is:

"In order to avoid the same thing from happening to the Wii U, we are considering details, such as what software is suitable for the launch, more carefully than ever before."

Look Nintendo, you launched the 3DS with hints of Mario (paper, Super & Kart), and a Zelda remake, a pilot wings the Wii should of had years ago and the usual crapware and ubisoftware... so how about making sure on launch day for your Wii U (which i am starting to think might be a game changer thx to IGN`s Batman Arkham City Wii U Guess Guide) give us a decent mario game, how about a real sequel to Mario 64 with lush HD graphics and a new castle, and New Controller puzzles, next up we need some hardcore titles but not s**t, A decent FPS a Decent RPG and a Decent Racer!!!

Just dont launch With Rabbids 'U' and a Mazza Galaxy Remake or Sequel although wouldnt mind a proper Luigis mansion use the controller to locate ghosts :-)

+1. Plus I think it's being a bit naive to dismiss the lack of oomph on bad press about the nausea. It was launched in the middle of a recession at a mind blowing £230 which was disproportionately expensive compared to the rest of the world who we also complaining about the price.

Retailers then set the price of the software at £40 when the US was paying $40. The price is simply too high for the public to accept as alright for a handheld system. Particularly when you consider how little you have to pay for a 360 or a Wii these days.

Your correct irritant. the price is insane for the 3DS. Why so much? Why?

Next where are the killer games? We all know that the games sell the system and not the other way round. There needs to be a game that mums and dads are talking, something that the normal joe public know about. Remember the DS had nintendogs, the GBA had pokemon, nintendo where is the killer 3DS title?

The longer you leave it the more you'll be hurting in sales...

To be fair, the DS didn't launch with nintendogs, it was released about a year after. The gameboy didn't launch with pokemon, in fact pokemon came out very late in the gameboys life, extending it even further. I think the 3DS had the problem of launching when there was little 3rd party support. Nintendo said themselves they wanted 3rd parties to push games during the launch period, but this just didn't happen. There are still good games on the 3DS right now but it is limited in saying that I think the system has loads of time to get selling in big numbers

I cant see the reason for spending £230 for a handheld then paying £40 a game. Nintendo has failed to realise that smart phones and tablets/ipads are pretty much replacing them. they are getting more powerful, the games are DIRT cheap (59p for a silly game and £5.99 for a proper title is quite cheap) not to mention they can be used for other things. In my opinion i do now see handheld gaming devices such as the psp and 3ds as obsolete. hardcore gamers will have a proper system such as the 360, ps3 or a PC/Mac, casual gamers would have a smart phone, the market for the handheld has been replaced by smart phones.
