Satoru Iwata: Wii U Will Satisfy Hardcore Gamers
Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata is confident that the Wii U will provide hardcore gamers with what they need to return to the Ninty fold.

In a recent interview he states, "These hardcore gamers are the ones that are looking forward to something brand new, some brand new entertainment. With Wii U , we will be able to provide them with that.

"This new controller is going to be very intuitive, but at the same time it can be very sophisticated. And together, I think we will be able to offer a new form of entertainment that can satisfy the needs of the core gamers."

As for the old Wii, well, "If we cannot sell as well as we expect to during the holiday sales season," he says, "it's going to be a grave concern for us."

He remains calm as ever though and provides some perspective, "It's nothing new. Last year and two years before, many people were very much concerned about the future of the Wii around this time of the year. However, the fact of the matter is that it ended up being the top-selling home console hardware of the year two years in a row, each year exceeding the previous record. That's simply because the Wii was able to enjoy great sales during the holiday season."

Hardcore gamers spend a lot longer than casuals playing.

What's the weight of this new controller? Will my arms get tired playing it? Will the extra size make for a comfortable controller for ppl used to PS3 and 360 controllers?

@DrkStr

Agree on those points, I cant see myself choosing to play COD on this over a 360 especially if I have to use the bloody screen to snipe or select weapons or what have you, I need a small light comfortable pad with quick finger thumb access to whatever it is I want I don't want to look elsewhere and I don't want to have to press the screen at the right pressure.

@Sean_Lowe I wouldn't consider COD a particularly hardcore gaming experience, it's more casual as are all games that mainly cater towards multiplayer experiences. To me a hardcore gamer plays RPG's, adventure games etc, in other words, single player games are what hardcore gaming is about.

If you were 'hardcore gamers' and real 'gaming fans' then you would already know the thoughts of people who have used it at E3 in regards to weight. Geez...

@Jenkem

WHAT!! so all those WOW players are casual gamers, all those playing Halo Online are casual gamers??

I picked COD as an example as its very popular, and also FPS genre is fast paced quick reactions are needed and precision controls, RPG and Adventure games would prolly work very well on the Wii U, in RPG seems very well suited to it.

@Matt, firstly that wasn't a final product its still development stage, so weight may increase or decrease, and second, no one has spent 2-3 hours holding one playing a frantic hardcore game yet....
