The Next Generation Portable is officially titled PlayStation Vita. SCEI top dog Kaz Hirai revealed the name of the company's new gaming handheld at the end of its E3 2011 press conference, noting that the name means "life."
WiFi and 3G technology will come complete in the device, and Kaz also took the time to announce that Sony has made an exclusive deal with US carrier AT&T to provide subscription-based 3G services. This was met with a fair few laughs and jeers from the audience - not surprising, given AT&T's reputation with Apple devices as of late.
PlayStation Vita will include software called Near, which aims to give you instant details on what your online friends are doing and who's playing on a Vita nearby. It's a bit like Nintendo's own StreetPass on the 3DS, but Sony-fied.
