Sony's Next Generation Portable will come complete with backwards compatibility for the range of PSP titles available on the PlayStation Network, as well as any games that can be purchased through the PlayStation Suite on Sony Ericsson devices.VP of Sony Worldwide Studios Europe, Michael Denny, told
Nowgamer that any PSN title purchased on PSP consoles will work with the NGP, with the added bonus of graphics-smoothing effects and button mapping.
"PSP-PSN games will be available to you on your NGP," Denny explained. "When you play
Resistance Retribution you’ll see there’s a graphics smoothing technology that really takes advantage of that new, five-inch, OLED screen, as well as the ability to remap buttons.
"A game like
Resistance really feels like it should have been made for NGP."
Although PlayStation Suite applications for Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play mobile phone will work on the NGP, Denny
stopped short of welcoming all Android apps onto the new device. "We’re happy to support both and those Android games available on PlayStation Suite will be available to play on NGP as well... PlayStation Suite devices only."
