Call of Duty Gets Elite Subscription
Activision/Blizzard is preparing to roll out and online service called Call of 'Duty Elite' that will present consumers with the option to pay an estimated and additional $9.99 per month for 'future instalments' of the franchise.

The news comes in an interview with CEO Robert - Bobby - Kotick in the Wall Street Journal. The report points out that the service, "will provide extra content that isn't offered on game discs sold in stores, including downloadable map packs that give players new Call of Duty levels to play."

The report also indicates that the service will enable "Call of Duty players tools, modeled on those from stock-trading websites, to analyze their performance within the game, gauging factors such as which weapons have been most successful for them in killing enemies."

They've been plotting long and hard trying to decide how to wring more money out of this series. I'm not paying £9.99 p/m to play anything, XBOX Live subscription or not. COD popularity seems to go from strength to strength despite a tired formula and lack of innovation. Already fans pay £40-50 for a disc release, followed by £10 + for each map pack. Introducing a subscription model will increase the annual cost of playing the game by 2 to 3 times and further fragment the user base. It'll make the competition appear more viable if I wasn't playing Halo Reach instead already.

COD now stands for Cash Over Desire and I do not desire to pay a subscription charge. I have bought every COD game and their downloadable maps should be free never mind paying a subscription charge. They should change the game name to RIP, since I will never buy another game if they allow their corporate greed rip-off. I have never played battlefield bad company, time for me to switch my allegiance.
